about
Ahead of their co-headlining US tour with EARTH this fall, Iceage offer 'All The Junk On The Outskirts'. The rollicking song was tracked during the recording sessions that formed their 2018 album Beyondless and has been rattling around the band’s ether since then. They revisited the track in 2021 and finished recording it this year. "I consider this one of the better cuts off the Beyondless sessions, but it ended up being a misfit that wouldn't quite fit in with the other songs as we put together the tracklisting. Like a piece belonging to a different puzzle,” says singer Elias Bender Rønnenfelt. “Much like it wasn’t welcome with the others on Beyondless, it's an anthem for those on the outside looking in."
lyrics
The fact of day and night means we’re encaptured
By a rhythm led by the globe’s spinning axis
Now I see the pulse In the disarray
Pandemonium laughed away
There are burdens and duties on our shoulders
But nothing comes easy in life, could’ve told ya
A broken man keeps in line, drunk on agnostic altar wine
Enduring one passing hour at a time, with entertainment and pills as if acid blinded
Such staggering and fabulous flames, this world contains
Some take for granted, some take the journey to its ashes
Their remains will join the grain
uh-uh
In that way, we’re all the same
And at that moment when the poetry is too lost
Behind shuttered windows and closed doors
All you want is women and song
And pacing these four walls don’t find you none
Then the collected loneliness of the world strikes me
A finger on the doorbell at the apartment housings of defeat
All the junk on the outskirts, all those yet to emerge
All the junk on the outskirts, all those yet to emerge
Such staggering and fabulous flames, this world contains
Some take for granted, some take the journey to its ashes
Their remains will join the grain
uh-uh
In that way, we’re all the same
